This is a closeup of an iris petal. You can see the individual cells of the leaf; at least, that's what I think they are. Click here for a higher resolution version of this image (73k). In order to get this magnification, I used a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens with a 2x teleconverter and a 25mm extension tube. You can probably tell that I extracted the background for this page from the cells in this image. |

This is a Calypso Orchid. The flower stalk is only about 6 inches tall, so you have to get very close to the ground to take a picture like this. The scanner does not do justice to the original image; spider web filaments in the original did not scan well. |
